I STILL BELIEVE IN NIGERIA. 🇳🇬
Every October 1st, we celebrate Independence Day.
But if I'm being honest, something feels different now.
Growing up, Independence Day felt like an occasion. The green and white. The excitement. The national anthem. The celebrations.
Now, people seem tired.
Tired of the economy.
Tired of the rising cost of living.
Tired of complaining about the same things.
Even some of the things that used to make Independence Day feel special don't feel quite the same anymore.
And I understand why.
I've grown older too. I've seen more. I come from an average home, and I know what it means when people say, “There is no food.”
I know the frustrations.
But somehow, beyond all of that, I still believe in Nigeria.
Because Nigeria is more than its economy.
We are blessed with culture.
With music that travels across borders.
With stories and history.
With food, languages, traditions and creativity.
With people who continue to create, build, teach, write, sing and dream even when things aren't easy.
And perhaps one of the most beautiful things about us is our diversity.
We're different.
We speak different languages. We have different traditions. We celebrate differently.
Yet somehow, all these different pieces still come together to make one Nigeria.
And that gives me hope.
I don't know exactly what Nigeria will look like years from now.
I don't know how long some of our challenges will take to overcome.
But somewhere in me, I still believe Nigeria will rise again.
Not because everything is perfect.
Not because we should ignore the problems.
But because I believe there is still so much good, talent, resilience and potential in the people of this country.
So today, I choose hope.
I choose to believe that the story of Nigeria is not ending with the struggles we see today.
There is still more to this country.
And perhaps, we are the ones who will help write that next chapter.
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria. 🇳🇬❤️
I still believe.
Keeping the Naija spirit alive, all day, everyday. 😌🇳🇬 Unapologetically, I take pride in my nationality. I am Nigerian. 😊
This made me a little emotional. I am a proud Nigerian and we are more than the challenges that try to define us.
